Jackie Edwards - Treasurer

My family Doris and John Rogers plus my six sisters moved to Willington Lodge in Horseman’s Green in 1971 where I enjoyed my schooling at the Maelor School in Penley. I remember in my domestic school lessons I made and decorated a Christmas cake which the teacher thought was quite good! So from that moment I left college with my O levels and went to Llandrillo College in Colwyn bay to do a two year OND in hotel and catering management. I was married a year later to Gareth at 19 years old.

My career has always been in Contract catering and not hotels as I needed a job Mon to Friday as a couple of years later Annie and Mark arrived. I started my career as a catering manager for Sutcliffe Catering, and became their local area manager looking after a number of catering contracts around the North Wales. I then became an operations director working for Compass Catering looking after 200 contracts in the North West of England with a team of area managers, managing a turnover of 30 million. Some of my group contracts included Shell and ICI in Ellesmere Port and Runcorn, Scottish Widows, Environmental Agency, Granada Studios, Law courts in Liverpool, British Steel, Sharps, Cheshire Police constabulary feeding Police , Civilians, Prisoners in Custody and incident catering via a mobile truck, training centres for new police recruits to name a few!

I then at age 45 started up my own business based in Telford feeding the employees of Ricoh via three restaurants and a directors private dining rooms with 30 assorted vending machines looking after all employees around the clock. Eight years later I followed Gareth and retired

I have 2 children Annie 38 who is married to Laura and they have 2 children Isla 4 and Jack 5 months old, then of course you will all have met my son Mark who is 37!

We moved back to Horseman’s green in 2002 and have loved living at Spring bank

We have got involved in working with the community in making the Village hall and all its activities

a very special place for Horseman’s Green and the local area.

I started my new role as Trustee as from July 2022.

Hillary Andrews - Vice Chair

Hilary Andrews is a founder member of the Community Hall Group and an original trustee. Hilary is very well known in the community so she is a Community Representative. She is responsible for ensuring the hall is kept clean by organising the Cleaning Rota of our volunteers. Along with this Hilary keeps a check on the usage of consumables in the hall. With her husband, David, Hilary organises and runs the ever popular Quiz Nights in addition to many other events. She too is also often busy in the kitchen at various events, especially the Coffee Mornings.

Andrea Porter - Secretary

Andrea is one of the original trustees and helped write the bid which secured the Lottery Funding grant. Indeed she is the National Fundraising co-ordinator. Andrea acts as secretary for the Community Hall Group and knows everything which needs to be known. Don’t know where we would be without Andrea. She also helps to co-ordinate events and produces the flyers, posters and all printed matter. Andrea is a keen and accomplished crafter and runs “Inspired To Make” one of the most popular local groups.

Jim Glover

I was born in 1954 the youngest of four on a small dairy farm quite close to Horseman’s Green. Apart from an eighteen-month period travelling around Australia and New Zealand I have lived in the Halghton/Hanmer parish all my life. Education as it was for a majority of farm lads was a complete waste of time. I wasn’t at all academic and couldn’t wait to leave and work on the family farm. I spent three years at Llysfasi Agricultural College doing day release as well as several evening classes.

At the age of twenty one it was apparent that the farm couldn’t generate a reasonable  income for everyone involved and an opportunity came up delivering farm feeds for a local company in Wem. I successfully applied for an Operating Licence and bought an old truck and started a new business as a road haulier. In 1989 with the support of Carole and my brother John, Maelor Feeds was established supplying farms in the local area. With a lot of hard work the company has expanded and now employs several full and part time staff.

A few years ago I took a back seat from the company, now enjoying time with our grandchildren and maybe the odd holiday. During Covid I volunteered at the Rainbow Centre delivering meals in the area but recently I’ve been promoted to driving the mini bus mostly on a Monday. The Community Hall has many happy memories from when I was in the scouts and seeing the Hall in all its glory is a joy to behold. As a trustee hopefully I will be able to support the community Hall for the foreseeable future.
